Course Objectives

In this module, learners will examine the research on early brain development and its implications on the general direction of a child’s development, the role of the environment and how the research have influenced policy and practice. Learners will also gain a fundamental understanding of the purpose of observations and the various methods of recording observations which will give learners a meaningful insight into a child’s development and guide practices that support and enhance development of the whole child. In this module, the main areas of development that are covered include: physical, language and cognitive development. Supporting theoretical principles that support these areas of development will also be examined.
